Blood Moon (why I didn’t sleep last night)
I guess everyone knows last night there was a lunar eclipse and the moon was bigger than usual So let me share with you how I took this photo.
At first Karolina was going to go with me but after we had returned from the beach where we took photos of moon rise (photo coming soon) she didn’t feel like going because the next day was going to be rather busy. That didn’t stop me though About 2.30AM I left home and drove to Wieżyca Tower located about 30km (18 miles) from my home on a hill in the middle of a forest. I was kinda worried that I would meet boars or something on my way through the woods but I got safely to my destination. The first thing I noticed that I had left my memory card home. Fortunately I had a spare one in my bag.
At that point I was kind of disappointed because it was already 3.30AM and there was almost no sign of lunar eclipse. The moon was bright and there were hardly any starts visible. I took some photos of the views around the tower but it was all meh.
Then it finally begun I must say I had never seen anything like it. The stars were getting brighter and brighter as the moon got really dark and red. I knew everyone else would be going for crazy closeups of the moon with tele lenses so I decided to do something different.
Since the moon was no longer so bright and I was pretty high up on the tower I could see Milky Way (err, I think it was it?) with my eyes. That was a good sign I could also see it in the photos As the Moon started to set (about 4.30AM) I took two exposures with a wide lens to have both the moon and the Milky Way clearly visible in the frame. I then combined the exposures so that the stars were bright enough and the moon not too bright in one frame.
So here it is – Blood Moon Over Kaszuby I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed skipping sleep to take it
